A programme of four works for S4tet:
Conlon Nancarrow (1912 - 97): String Quartet No.3 (1987)
Tom Chiu (b2016, according to WIKI! actually 1971): RETROCON (2015)
Julian Anderson (b1967): String Quartet No.2 "300 Weihnachtslieder" (2014)
Michael Gordon (b1956): Clouded Yellow (2010)
The Flux 4tet (of whom the one-year-old Chiu is the founder) gave the wonderful all-night performance of the Feldman second quartet towards the end of last year. I'm particularly interested to hear the Nancarrow - and I don't know any of Chiu's Music.
The American theme (a "spot the odd one out" programme) is continued by a tribute from Robert Worby to Pauline Oliveros (1932 - 2016), at some unspecified point "during the programme". I can't help feeling that an entire programme devoted to her work would have been more appropriate.
