I was reminded the other day of this Spanish composer (not his more famous Renaissance namesake)! by coming across by accident his 1997 orchestral piece Coma Berenices on Youtube
Although he died of a sudden illness at the age of 46 he was quite prolific so there's plenty of work to explore. Coma Berenices shows the obvious influence of Xenakis in its microtonal textures, as does the string ensemble piece Ariadna
One of his unfinished projects was an orchestration of Albéniz's Iberia - here's one completed movement from it, a rather convincing piece of work in my opinion:
