Tom Service with recently recorded live performances of new, adventurous and experimental music. Plus interviews and features. Today featuring Plus Minus Ensemble in July at the Edinburgh Festival of Art, harpist Milana Zaric (in February 2023 at the Bangor Music Festival), flautist Lina Andonovska (in April at the Terrain festival in Belfast) and the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a studio concert from June at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios, in London. Featuring music by George Rodgers, Richard Barrett, Liza Lim and Andrea Tarrodi. And Manchester-based composer Sam Salem discusses the work he created for his group Distractfrold in collaboration with members of the BBC Philharmonic.

The piece by Andre Tarrodi, in a specially made recording for the BBC, is worth hearing. Some lovely sounds - and a definite sense of movement and structure. I'd not known about this composer previously.

Seems this work was actually written around 10 years ago.

Thanks for that, Dave. That harp piece could offer a good entry point into Richard Barrett's music; it further confirms for me the aesthetic debt Richard owes to Debussy and French composers in his wake, implicit in the harp with electronics pieces on the link I provided in #5.

He doesn’t post here currently, so if you want to know more you’ll have to look elsewhere, A few others who followed his work more closely have also gone silent.

I've often wished that we could somehow mark our Favorites (probably sic) to be able to find them easily.
