Dont get me wrong, I am very much in favour of avant garde experiments, but there has to be something there for we ignorant people to be confused by. There is nothing in that CD except turntable rumble, and I paid a lot of money for my hifi so that it doesnt rumble.

And if you find "lots of things happen" in Radigue's music, what do you find happens in Transamorem - Transmortem except a bad case of worn turntable bearings? I paid at least twenty quid for that CD and I have heard nothing except a bad joke. Its not Radigue's music that infuriates me, it is that she charges me a lot of money for nothing. I've already got plenty of nothing, in case she hasnt noticed, but at least I wont fall for that one again.
I'm happy to make do with the 256kbps AAC-LC offering o YouTube. Not too much lost from that. Listening to it is a very personal and highly variable experience. I would avoid the use of headphones. Using speakers one gets to involve oneself much more in the music. Even a slight change in the orientation of one's head changes the mix of frequencies perceived.

This month's edition of Wire magazine has a very comprehensive survey of Radigue's music.

On Qobuz (following up a Gramophone review), I especially liked the Occam Ocean(s)....

Qobuz is the world leader in 24-bit Hi-Res downloads, offering more than 100 million tracks for streaming in unequalled sound quality 24-Bit Hi-Res

Vibrating, Hanging and hovering there in space, following me round the house....

Heading off to Iklectik in a little over an hour. Looks like the new temporary rail timetable just about makes getting to and from the gig possible as long as it's finished by 11 pm.

My current back problems rule out attendance unfortunately. This would've otherwise been my first gig in 2 years. What a shame!

I'm just hoping my current bout of sciatica remains in relative quiescence for the evening. About an hour into the journey there. So far, so good. I hope you are fit enough to attend for the launch of their Broadwood 200 grand on March 17th. At least some of it will be recorded for future commercial release. There will be a couple of world premieres. Details are not up on the Iklectik website yet but the event is confirmed. Four pianists (Michael Chant, Hugh Shrapnel, Sarah Walker and John Tilbury) plus bass flute (Carla Rees, newly appointed professor of low flutes and contemporary flute at the RAM).

I liked the third Occam Cd most - apparently there’s a fourth in the imminent.

I missed this - or rather I read about it and promptly forgot to do anything about it. Enjoy.

Things move fast on this board! I notice that the thread title hasn't been corrected, while msg 3 mentions what I think is a correct spelling of the name of the composer who triggered this thread.
Getting on for seven years have elapsed. :-)

This has just appeared and is free for a week. Eliane Radigue talking about her work and the process of composition, plus some glimpses of her scores. I found it very interesting.

Éliane Radigue’s very first organ piece, Occam XXV, is to be released this March. The work has its roots in a commission from the Organ Reframed festival, which enlisted Radigue to compose her first piece for organ for its 2018 edition. Radigue, who celebrates her 90th birthday later this month, worked closely on the piece […]

This was mentioned during Sunday's event at Iklectik. The speaker related that it was recorded at Union Chapel, Islington, on their Henry Willis organ, though not using its hydraulic system, and that they had heard a pre-release copy and was very impressed by the very low rumbling she heard. At this, I was unable to suppress a chuckle. I then felt constrained to explain why. An underground line runs beneath the chapel and a low rumble fitting her description can sometimes be heard as a train passes below, the chapel acting as a resonating chamber. I eagerly await the release, hopefully including a streaming option via QOBUZ, to hear whether what she heard was from the organ or the Northern City Line underground tunnel. In recordings I have made in the chapel in 1984, 200 and 2015, such rumble punctuates some quiet passages.
