    Ah, the sound of surprise! - the real sound, as Memphis Slim said of Chicago blues in the '60s.

    If I'd known this was on, Ida mentioned it in my weekly jazz board forthcomings.

    Why Radio 4? I think I've asked this before. But given the paucity of contextual guidance offered there days to anyone tuning into Radio 3 it's worth pondering the likely fate of improvised and experimental musics in the coming battles between ratings and "elitism" charges, so one supposes one has to be grateful for any incidental crumbs.
