    Finnissy's kelir

This is just a cross fertilising thread in case H&N folk had not focused on tonight's Live in Concert.

Exaudi in Leonin, Scelsi, Machaut, Holliger, Ciconia, Rodericus and Michael Finnissy.

Thanks, ardcarp (I'll try to find the relevant Live in Concert posts). I listened to this twice and found it more appealing the second time. If I compare it to the Ferneyhough Inconjunctions I've just been listening to, the structure of Kelir seemed easier to grasp and its fabric seemed largely more transparent. I found the rather heady, serener material that first appeared after four mins or so very appealing.

I'm always particularly interested to hear a cappella music by composers who you don't always associate it with. If one has only heard their instrumental music you can seem to get another, quite fresh window onto them. About a month ago I heard a CD of a cappella music by Messiaen, Xenakis and Stockhausen and was really quite surprised by what I found.

The Finnissy, the Angelorum salad and the Scelsi pieces were (for me) the most rewarding but I found the whole of this concert a nice experience. The very opening is Leoninus as I do prefer it performed (rather roughly, that is).
