Blotto himself explained that they are compositions "with multiple strident lines of discord".

Sir Velo, you're right: I was not saying anything about the composer's intentions vis-à-vis the listener's experience. I was however suggesting that Blotto's assertion that the music referred to is not "clearly audible imaginatively before performance" is a somewhat ignorant thing to say which could never be backed up by any kind of convincing argument. Another unsupported assertion is "most new music isn't repeated". Do you have the figures? No, because what you say wouldn't be supported by them.

As for "certain contemporary compositions which do tax even adventurous listeners beyond the point of endurance", which ones did you have in mind? Let's maybe talk meaningfully about music rather than in spurious generalisations.

      Rename it 'spat pieces', perhaps?

Does anyone know if anyone composed a piece for a district of Cardiff and called it Splott Piece?

I have no idea, but Richard Barrett might know.

Is this thread now in danger of having lost the Splott?...

...in the sense that, had there been such a piece, the Scratch orchestra might - or ought to - have played it?...
