H&N 140322 [date ordered for chronological filing convenience]

Bit of a curate's egg of a programme last night, I thought. The recorded items were fine, a real treat in the case of the Harry Partch, but while the performance space may not (does not) have the most friendly of acoustic properties, surely the audio engineers for the live items could have done a better job of conveying the performances than they did?

Available on "Listen Again" for those of us who missed it:

Robert Worby presents live music from Max de Wardener, plus Frank Zappa and Harry Partch.

... an odd mixture that didn't attract me as a programme. Dunno why; the items individually I find appealing, and I'm normally attracted to strange encounters! Partch is obscenely neglected: I'll certainly make time for this.

Freddie Mercury playing Ligeti's Volumina should be interesting, too!!!!!!

Volumina was not as voluminous as I remember it from previous recordings or performances I attended in the '60s and '70s.

Just spotted this on the playlist too. I know this isn't the place for complaining about the increasing inaccuracy of listings but it's getting beyond a joke. There should be a complete and reliable guide to what has been broadcast, creating an archive that the serious listener can use for research.
