    Pipe Dreams

This was trailed after CE today:

A fresh and compelling odyssey through the extraordinary world of organ music.

Acclaimed virtuoso Iveta Apkalna takes us on a personal odyssey through organ music: exploding myths and cliches, and reinventing how we see this extraordinary musical machine.

Not sure I like the 'machine' bit!

..including this, which has been a stalwart of NPR for nearly 40 years, with the same presenter..

Also by me nine days ago, after the first episode: http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...Sunday-4-4-21)

I wondered why there was so little interest.

When the trail invites you to “forget everything you thought you knew about the organ “ does that apply to FRCO’s?

Especially them! The finest organists of my acquaintance (soloist or accompanimental) either haven’t bothered with that esteemed diploma or gained it in while still at school, so the effect of the training has by now largely worn off.

Just heard an episode today. The one with Virgil Fox playing long loud chords. Quite impressed that it was the presenter playing that tricky organ solo from the Glagolitic Mass...the one that makes you feel like a contortionist.

What were the other episodes like? Worth a listen?

A rare effort to enthuse the R3 listener about organ music, especially out of a liturgical context, by a talented current practitioner. Certainly worth a listen to the wide variety on offer, though I wish Iveta hadn’t talked over the music - presumably the producer’s choice.

Music played is listed under each episode: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00...episodes/guide

Twelve days left to listen to the first episode, including a stunning Mozart K608 from T. Trotter.
