    Iveta Apkalna‘s Pipe Dreams - 1 of 3 (11pm, Sunday 4/4/21)

I can never turn off a performance of Mozart’s Fantasia K608 when chanced upon, as last night as I was turning in. I wasn’t surprised to be told by a voice I didn’t recognise, that the virtuosic but musical performance was by Thomas Trotter. Hardly believing my ears, the voice went on to discuss organ music enthusiastically and knowledgeably. I had stumbled on that present-day rarity, a R3 slot devoted to the organ, and not just the church organ, as we were treated to Iveta herself playing the new Rieger in the recently built Elbphilharmonie.

Definitely worth a listen, despite the irritation of her sometimes talking over the start of the music. There are two more episodes on the following Sunday evenings at 11pm.

A fresh and compelling odyssey through the extraordinary world of organ music.

was surprised about this - an annoying feature for me - listened to 1st 30mins then afraid bed called - but a remarkable subject for today's R3 though I guess the 11pm slot on Sunday is not seen as a high visibility slot
