It was a lovely organ to accompany on prior to its 1974 rebuild when the Choir was replaced by a Positif (full of 'Baroque screamers' according to Richard Greening, then organist). The most recent rebuild by Harrison in 2000 rectified things to some extent.
Lichfirld Cathedral, despite its (much restored) Gothic magnificence, does not have an especially helpful acoustic in the Choir.
NB The organ is tuned to a very sharp pitch. Presumably changing the pitch at rebuilds wasn't viable?
