David Briggs at St David’s and Llandaff Cathedrals - R3, Wed 25 Sept

Those interested in the art of improvisation on the organ should tune in this evening when David Briggs improvises a 'full-length organ symphony' based on three Welsh themes in the second half of his recital. He plays the IV+P/80 organ of Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff built by Nicholson in 2010 at a cost of £1.5 million. (Three years later, the Dean and Chapter sacked all the Lay Clerks, a choral scholar and the Assistant Organist to save £45,000.)

The organ is the largest commissioned for a British cathedral since the Harrison & Harrison instrument was built for Coventry Cathedral in 1962.
The specification of the organ can be found here: http://www.nicholsonorgans.co.uk/wp-...c-llandaff.pdf
