    Leifs Organ Concerto

Icelandic composer Leifs' organ concerto was featured on Composer of the Week today. Begun in 1918 and completed in 1930 it seems to bear some resemblances to Poulenc's...which came later.

Donald Macleod hears the 'original' geyser in Iceland and introduces works by Jon Leifs.

...about 20 mins into the programme.

I was in my car and came in part way through - glad I make a habit of turning the volume down before I switch off the radio - fair made the sides of my little micra vibrate! I agreed with DMcC's 'wow' at the end of it and smiled at his comment about going and sitting down for a bit. The following flute piece was a lovely contrasting choice. I would like to hear the whole Leif piece, but I doubt my PC would do it justice - and I'm not sure in any case I would want to listen through headphones.....

A really rumbustious piece. Bet you need a sit down after playing that! Crikey!

It was performed at the Proms this season by the excellent Stephen Farr. Well worth hearing if you can track it down: it sounds splendid on the RAH organ.
