Oh God. Not again. I'm listening right now (to see if they survive the experience?) and, Mr Announcer, it's not RALph Downes. You obviously haven't been put through your paces.

Awful recorded sound but wonderful playing on the best instrument in the country! I think they have put the mics in the Dean's stall.

but to borrow a feeling from another thread better not criticise those in power too much or they never may give us another such recital - I enjoyed the recital, the brief talk was fairly illuminating but the sound to me did sound somewhat muddy - wonder how long below we get another though? - would have thought a wednesday evening recital using same crew as for an earlier evensong might will be a 'cheap' option

Absolutely, it's brilliant that the Beeb broadcast live concerts like this. It's just such a pity that they can't match the sound that engineers get nowadays on CD. I just watched the BBC sharks program on my HD TV - I don't imagine that you can get camera work better than that anywhere in the world but it's simply not that case that the live sound on radio 3 is as good as you can get.

Listening to the iplayer - very odd sound in places, some notes totally inaudible (e.g. pedal bottom E flat in both Bach and Hindemith).

I listened on iPlayer, and can't comment on the sound as it was on the tablet in the garden, but during the Bach the screen insisted we were listening to Biber!
