The architect clearly had an idea in his head about what the facade of a futuristic organ might look like. The result? A few random (and probably dummy) pipes planted like a row of beans.
I can't find any details online. Presumably there are some treasures lurking somewhere out of sight..
INTERVIEW/VIDÉO - Le Figaro a rencontré le compositeur Thierry Escaich qui a inauguré le monumental instrument de musique le 7 février.

The site is working perfectly for me now. In middle of Piece Heroique...which is an ideal piece for the stage console...or second console as they call it:
The article in Le Monde describes how....
IMO, the Bach and Buxtehude would have been much better played on the mechanical console...though it would not have been a spectator sport....

I heard the whole thing last night. Interesting that Latry (IMO the most poised and accomplished player) chose to play mainly orchestral arrangements leaving the French organ repertoire to Wayne Marshall...who also gave a brilliant (but slightly over-long?) improvisation on the Can Can theme, climaxing with the customary fugue.
It seems that where there is a mechanical action organ with a second remotely operated stage console (a vastly expensive business BTW), the mechanical action console is hardly ever used...e.g. The Bridgewater Hall. What is the point? Yes, mechanical action is fantastic, but in the case of these large concert instruments is it little more than a nod to orthodoxy?

I was at the Mendelssohn concerts in the Philharmonie de Paris on Saturday and Sunday.
Yes, the on-stage console is desperately ugly, and the Rieger logo on the side is tacky in the extreme. But … the organ sounded magnificent in the Lobgesang on Saturday. The 'reveal' moment when the panels opened and the rest of the pipes appeared resulted in a few gasps in the audience. I can't say I was keen on the red lighting which came on and off in the chambers behind the panels.
The concerts are available to watch online.
Concert 1 : Symphonies 3 ('Scottish') and 2 ('Lobgesang') (Saturday 20th February. The Lobgesang begins about 46 minutes in.)
Concert 2 : Symphonies 1, 4 ('Italian') and 5 ('Reformation') (Sunday 21st February)
