If only EH didn't do everything so slowly.

Er...quite a spring in his step with the Baroque and Classical repertory.

Indeed. EH a 'slow' one? Hmm. I think not.

Not really, but not wishing to deflect from EH's extraordinary 38-year reign, just listening for light relief to choirs without senior-boy-Valkyries...

NCO just take things in their stride. Men very professional and boys confident. This is just a personal thought, but the music list was just a bit 'ordinary'. OK, the introit was novel (but not terribly special IMHO) but I'd have loved something from the mid-16th cent (Taverner?) and something from the 20th (Poulenc? Britten?) both of which they do so well.

Anyone know what temperament the organ is tuned to? It sounded fine in the Buxtehude (well-played, BTW). Not so sure about it for hymns A&M.

                    Werckmeister III, I believe.

I am sure someone told me about three years ago that it was then currently a variant of Thomas Young.

Have to say I'm rather in agreement with ardcarp on the service and the singing. Nothing much to excite, and from one of the most celebrated Oxbridge ensembles, just a wee bit of an anti-climax maybe? Cleanly sung, ensemble good, usual NCO treble sound.

                        Liked the Buxtehude.

I suppose much of the music formed a whole through its light, bright counterpoint. It was not an English pudding, more of a souffle. The singing was oh-so-neat but suited its context. Nothing to complain about but, as ardcarp and DraoM have suggested, little that will linger a little longer in memory, excepting the beautifully executed Buxtehude. Cuisine minceur to suit a day that saw obesity dreadfully arrayed.
