Thanks for the reminder. Just time to have some tea beforehand.

This afternoon's repertoire not going to set the Severn on fire,- Leighton just a wee bit tentative in places, but neatly done, good discipline and confidence, particularly the psalms - always a stern test of any ensemble - but whose lilt and propulsion I liked.

Brahms, not for me at all. Decently done, but I find Brahms's choral music rarely quickens the blood.

Did I hear that Mr Nardone was playing and Mr Allsop conducting?

Yes. I imagine Christopher Allsop runs the girls' choir at Worcester. I thought they were very competent. Very good men.

Does anyone know how the boys' choir is getting on under Peter Nardone?

From the recent Salisbury thread: "Is it me or have we had a lot of girls top lines on CE lately?". Now Worcester too. I sincerely hope we are not seeing the total eclipse of the boys in our Cathedral choirs.

Apart from the top line pitch in the Introit and Anthem which I felt was a little wayward at times, the overall sound was pleasant.

And another excellent voluntary; although judging by the Salisbury thread there will be more said about the organ than the choir.

In the end I had to record it so look forward to giving it a proper listen soon.

A very pleasing service - well done to the girls choir for their first broadcast!

I found the Smart voluntary (well-played of course) rather rambling in structure. I'm all in favour of playing the 'Victorian' repertoire, but it did make one realise that Smart is not in the same league as Mendelssohn, Elgar or Stanford.

Very well indeed. I heard them at last year's Choir Schools' Association conference.
