some embarrassingly inane tweets - should I really care if Joe Bloggs from Neasden thinks something is "amazing" ? - the best thing for me was being introduced to Rudolf Tobias, which I was convinced was Parry, till the back-announcement

Blimey and wasn't it a tweetfest too! Preening and strutting at being so cool as to have tweeters.

Every other bluddy minute, between almost every 'track', exactly the same 'Breakfast' style relentless promotions of other progs, upcoming 'tracks' , upcoming features - and then we had the 'Classical Charts'. And as if that was not enough, the cynical inclusion of hearty comforting hymn-like stuff to keep people sweet having terrified the fainthearted by the promise of Stimmung.

So damned formulaic, so totally Breakfast, so SM-P. The death of The Choir.

SMP is already on my avoid unless totally necessary list - however the evening concert was an excellent recital from Peterborough - something must have changed as we have had two Organ recitals in about a month whereas in previous years we were lucky to get 2 a year (and those usually at the Proms) - or has cost cutting meant that paying only a single musician is now a necessity.

those thoughts crossed my mind too.

... so, if I have my facts right, is that the last time we hear Peterborough at A=440, and will I notice the difference when we return ?

Yes, frances_IOM, SM-P's almost neurotic, bullying style, fast talking, tweets and emails, busy busy busy 'Breakfast' style is so TOTALLY wrong for [a] Sunday afternoon [b] The Choir.

A real and seriously off-putting mismatch of programme and in your face presenter. As with the egregious Aled Jones, another case of the presenter getting in the way of the programme, making the whole thing about HER and not the content cf Rafferty, Trelawny, Service.

R3 was at Peterborough for CE recently. Were I a suspicious person, I'd suggest that that was recorded on the evening of that CE, or near it, while the kit was installed for the CE. Cynical, moi?

No, it was definitely live, I was there. That is, unless RQ, who was shown on a video screen in the building, is in cahoots with Roger Wright and mimed the entire recital with split-second exactitude while we listened to a relay of a recorded concert.

                Good to know!! Many thanks.
Please forgive the cynicism: what the BBC means by 'live' has long been a matter of much discussion on these threads.

I think Live in Concert is really "live" unless indicated to the contrary. But maybe they left much of their equipment from CE in place ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
