    Welsh Carmina Burana

Hope lots of people will listen tonight and post pro and anti impressions...

I'm afraid I'm out playing quartets but Carmini Burana is a piece I hated when on the odd occasion I had to play it, so I probably would have deliberately missed it anyway. Sorry!! (It probably sounds just as bad in Welsh anyway)

The rice is included though and you get the little dish of curry sauce on the side

Well, the kiddy choir reduced me to tears as usual and I sang along to most of the rest. So there's one happy punter outside the principality.

I think the massed youth choirs had a good party...

Has the piece ever been performed in English?

I'm not sure if a translation would really be possible - it's in various mediaeval European languages and the meanings are risque in the extreme.

Young people's student junk, basically. But poetry which is the tap-root of western culture, imo. And the music does it justice, Kraut or not.

Well, this is often said, but is it actually the case? There's a (non-singing) translation here, for example, which contains nothing particularly objectionable, and here is a version specially written to fit Orff's setting, of which the same is true: I see nothing there likely to shock any audience today.
