    jean,

Perhaps New College or any other college/cathedral should pay compensation when they entice away another establishment's choir manager, in the same way as football clubs do, before the individual could be expected to leave?!!

Woa, hold on, VCC, a bit OTT, isn't it?
Freedom of movement? If the guy decides to go, even if he is 'invited to apply' elsewhere, presumably he'd speak to the Dean and Chapter etc etc........

I'm sure we are all very grateful for you pointing that out to us, Headmaster.

Give over with that nonsense. No one will have broken any employment rules; he's just performed a decent 'upgrade' in a very short space of time. He'll do well at New College. Don't forget the job also requires the balance of DoM with teaching - bit more than your usual Director job; thank God you get Sundays off!

lcb, could I ask you to edit your post so it doesn't look as if I wrote that particular piece of 'nonsense'?

Mr Quinney is one of many former KCC organ scholars to have gone on to distinguish themselves. He's entitled to look out for the best job he can get, and while he could have worked out a few years ago that New College would come up soon, he couldn't be sure of being offered it. I wish him well. I realise some others have expressed similar views, and at times like this I wish we had 'like' buttons for agreeing with particular posts.

I hope the New College organ is already tuned to A440 Hz.

I suspect that will depend to a fairly large extent on whether he retains the services of Bronwyn Mills, their singing teacher.

With this ringing endorsement from Edward Higginbottom I am even more disappointed than I was at the time that we didn't hear the Peterborough boys in the recent broadcast from the cathedral.

Following someone as successful and charismatic as Edward Higginbottom it is vital that he should be his own man and do things his way. He won't make a success of the choir otherwise.
