Onluy 16 verses of the 119th? What about the rest? [edit: I mean the other 16 of the section, of course, not the rest of the Psalm!]

        McKie introit pretty anonymous.
Mix of Part and Holst for canticles particularly effective - well-matched and well-sung.
Astonishing voluntary completely new to me - soundtrack for a steam train video? Or extract from Fritz Lang 'Metropolis'?
Choristers sounded in very decent nick, and good, tight discipline on psalm. Robust hymn singing at the end from all present.

Is it just me, and does it mark me irretrievably as a neanderthal, but I just cannot get my head round a female precentor. I have tried, honestly, I have. It's easier when singing live in response to one such [ as I have] than hearing it on radio. Don't know why that should be the case. But for me, it is.

The title of the Voluntary is not "Anthem per annum" as given here and in Radio Times but "Annum per annum" see http://www.universaledition.com/Arvo...?sort=0#page=0 RAC

I can only post what the R3 website promulgates. The 12 yr olds setting the R3 page up were probably listening to Justin Beiber on headphones while copying from some Three Choirs document.

The festival does normally get that sort of thing correct, so I don't think the error would have originated there.

Indeed! I later checked the site and the TC site has it correct - of course! So, presumably it must be BBC website operatives. What a surprise that is.

Really? Where does it mention the voluntary?

I'm something of a neanderthal as well, but it occurs to me that it might have something to do with the register. I have not yet heard today's CE, but If a female precentor were to sing an octave lower than the usual soprano would that sound sweeter to your ears?
