    A Meditation on Christ's Nativity Wed, Dec 26th 2012

    A Meditation on Christ's Nativity Wed, Dec 26th 2012
The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge
First broadcast: Sunday 28 December 2008

A service of music and readings including the (then) first broadcast performance of 'Ex Maria Virgine' - a sequence of Christmas carols by John Tavener completed on Christmas Day 2005.

    Verbum caro
    Nowell! Nowell!
    Out of your sleep
    Remember, O thou man
    Sweet was the song
    Ave Rex Angelorum
    There is no rose
    Ding! Dong! merrily on high
    Rocking
Unto us is born a Son
    Verbum caro

    Organ Scholar: Simon Thomas Jacobs
    Director of Music: Timothy Brown

Why a repeat of this? There are better things from other choirs. Illustrates Tavener very well though: some super stuff, some naff.

I had rather the same thoughts.

A thought: Tim Brown has just retired. Maybe this was a sort of tribute??

GR took up post of DoM at CCC autumn 2010 after TB's 31 yr tenureship, I believe. Tribute a trifle delayed if so - but I could be totally wrong.

Thanks for info. This recording was 2008, I think?

So, OK, belated broadcast tribute was maybe what I should have suggested?
Tim Brown's tenure at Clare was distinguished, but the BBC seem to have more or less ignored it, methinks. Hey ho.
