    JEG on Aled's show

The Monteverdi Choir ("best choir in the world"?) is being featured on The Choir this evening at 6.30. I am fascinated to know how patrician JEG will interact with populist Aled.

I'm not sure that's wholly fair on either of them, ardcarp! But I expect we get roughly what you mean... It will be interesting to hear JEG's comment about his recent win... I have the feeling he may play it downa bit, but we'll see.

Since this was a repeat of a programme from 2008 the "win" did not feature until the closing credits.

Yep, it's as you say. I didn't realise it was to be a repeat - but that said, I enjoyed it. I rarely listen, certainly not to the full hour and a half, but this evening I did.

Bit of a variety in the quality as the choir has changed over the years, I thought - but they made a good job of How Lovely at the end, IMO.

I'm not sure that the legato-less style that they showed in both the Handel and the Bach was appropriate - but JEG is so against what he sees as the Willcocks/Guest homogenised collegiate sound that he does almost anything for variety. Not sure that's always a good thing - but one can never doubt his achievements - and so good luck to them all.

I can't help thinking, not for the first time, that it would be nice if, just for once, he'd recognise that there was competent musical life outside Cambridge and London!

Neither did I...sorry! I haven't listened to it yet (was feeding the 5000 at 6.30) but will LA soon.

No, very unfair, but I was hoping to provoke some discussion.

No doubt repeated precisely because cashing in on the Gramo poll. Convenient? Possibly.
            Serendipitous? No chance.
Somewhat embarrassing non meeting of 'minds'? Deffo.

it wasn't even much good in London until he got there, either.

              Very arrogant I thought him.

Exactly. Pre- and post JEG ages for musical man.

                Crikey! Hubris or what?
