    The Choir

Tomorrow's The Choir is going to discuss the role of the choral accompanist, according to a trail on today's CD Review. The programme's website seems to have missed this out, skipping instead to the edition on 14th Oct featuring Gabriel Jackson.

It sounded very interesting. Here’s the update.

[ed.] this seems to be a repeat: first broadcast on 18 Apr 2010. Did anyone hear it?

Interestingly AFAICS, an increasing number of The Choir programmes ARE repeats. Wonder why?

From the BBC website,"Together they discuss the challenges, ways to improve your game, and highlight some of the finest exponents of this often underappreciated job."

One of my organ teachers told me a story about George Thalben Ball. During a service the priest said something along the lines of "the organ will now play...". Nothing. GTB did not move. The priest repeated: "The organ will now play". GTB called out, "Then let it!"

He's presenting the dawn news programme (Daybreak) on ITV each day

Surely now is the time to find someone more acceptable for The Choir...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

They've recently announced that he's leaving Songs of Praise: 'A BBC source said: “Aled is now one of the faces of ITV, so it makes sense that he is not going to get as many chances on the Beeb." '
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Well, preferable to Mr Jones (scary that the latter is 41 )

Thank you ff, you have enabled me to cheer my aged father who has boycotted SoP since it became "the damn' Aled Jones show"
