    I did have a peek earlier on today, and notice that there's a lull in activity until this evening. The rest may have refreshed the old thought processes....

      Hope so Ofca!! Even I manage to get some correct answers (I was going to say, well if Caliban can get some right ......... anyone can! But I won't!)

        Thanks for quoting Am's post too, as you know I don't see them. It's appropriate to reply briefly, if I may, and then hopefully we can be done with it and get back to conundrums!

        You are welcome, Am51. Despite my disagreement with most of what you write on here it was only right and just for me to apologise for misinterpreting your earlier post and making an unwarranted comment against you.

        I suggest it's better if our paths cross as infrequently as possible. As I've said before, I wish you well, harsh words and disagreements on here notwithstanding.
        You are welcome Simon. I think I got MOST of the very first one and I've known some bits of the subsequent ones and I enjoy just knowing that. The clever stuff I'm quite happy to watch and learn! Have a good remainder of the weekend. Have had the pleasure of Philip Moore's Canterbury Mass this morning, with Dupré's Gminor P&F. Wondrous Winchester stuff!

          Well, I thought somebody would have had a bash by now! There are a fair few clues!

          Anyway, perhaps this alteration (in green) might give an extra - and very direct - hint, in case anybody wants a final go.

          bws S-S!

          You can see me in psaltery, down there in seven,
          but never a glimpse will you find in eleven;
          in fine English sixes I always occur,
          as Cassius or Brutus would no doubt aver;
          You won't hear me in Brussels, or Lille, or Toulouse
          and in Bonn and Vienna
          I'm said to refuse.

            Hmm. Some emails to ask me to give the answer. OK - after CE on Wednesday, DV.

                No Ofca. It's quite a literal, straightforward conundrum actually.

                Being able to recite a couple of psalms would help, too, but if you didn't listen in assembly whose fault is that, young man?

                  Changed flights to allow me to link up with a colleague. So better to post now rather than forget later.

                  FWIW, the answer is nine (9).

                  a] There is a verse 9 in Psalm 7, but not in Psalm 11.
                  b] If you look at the word "six" you'll see the Roman numerals ix.
                  c] French speaking countries don't really have that particiular sound, but of course in German it means "No".

                  bws to all and "see" you in a few weeks DV!

                  S-S!

                    Of course ... how stupid of me not to think of that.

                        "...the isle is full of noises,
                        Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
                        Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
