I can confirm that Ludlow isn't the church in question - also, choral evensong and choral mattins is sung in the chancel, each twice a month, while the parish and sung eucharists are sung/celebrated under the crossing/tower.

I thought the opening of the thread was a Times crossword-like clue. Sadly then, it doesn't appear to be the Pugin chapel of St Edmund's College, Ware...

How about a Priory in the West country with its own summer festival?

Gary (welcome by the way) if it were Edington you had in mind, I think Finzi said it was not a place where CE was broadcast from....didn't he... in post #24.

Thanks for the welcome! Ok, if it's not Edington I have no idea!

"rightly famous building" is the clue Finzi gives in Msg 24. A chapel in a castle or palace perhaps?

Agreed, which is what made me think of checking out the famous Greater churches, and I reckon the Boston Stump is pretty famous as a building/ landmark.
The east end window is the right shape, as are the two windows on the south side, the SE window lower half obscured by canopies of the sedilia.
I wasn't sure about the lighting, but the photos on http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=630893 seem to suggest some small downward hanging cylindrical lights from the ceiling, and there are small lights concealed in the tops of the canopies of the back row of the stalls, all of which tie in with the BBC photo.
The choir and their cassocks don't look to be the same as those of the resident choir to judge from the church website http://www.parish-of-boston.org.uk/music.html but as has been suggested this could be a visiting choir or an older photo- I could find no matches on google images.
                        Now, what are they singing?!

I wonder whether it's a church in Newark.

Well, you could thread some story together about the scarlet cassocks being hand-me-downs from the 8 miles away Minster.......or even the visiting Minster Choir itself......... but the East window doesn't match and Newark PC has a wooden screen I think
