But you have to show your workings out too! It doesn't count for the pint otherwise! Liz

        You tell him Lizzie!

Come on, oh rocky denizen of the limpid pools - reveal all! Or I won't feel justified in enjoying your pint later!

OK - I'm under cover of a pseudonym, and I'll risk Simon's mockery....

          Innkeeper = Taverner (TA)
          Canticles in E = Murrill (L)
Brahms boozer - Liszt (L) -- Brahms and Liszt, cockney-style!
          Half Tristan's Mrs = Is(eult) (IS)
          Military music - Canon (Cannon)

So I go with TALLIS. (If I'm right, please bear in mind I don't drink beer - champers or scotch will be fine)

Impressive workings out! Reckon you'd get gold star for that one. Wish I'd thought of holding out for a gin and tonic now! I reckon we can get Simon blotto at this rate! Best. Liz

I wouldn't mock anyone dec. Even though I spent most of my time on Can.

Yes, well done, that was it. Champers it is.

I expect ardcarp got it too, but was too dilatory to let us know how. These fat fish can be sluggish in cold weather...

Anyone else got a similar choral brainstretcher?

Thank you, Simon. If ardcarp also solved it, you've got two pint glasses of bubbly to consume. I hope it's your birthday.

I'll try to devise a choral brain-teaser for Easter - though it might be Easter 2012. Now, let me think......

With great trepidation, I pose my own little, er, poser for anyone not too addled with celebration.

How come a denizen of spring pastures, a miner's friend and one with a famous body ended up in the same hallowed portals?

My mind is working in 3 directions on this one. Can you just confirm that the area you are looking for is indeed choral? Cos otherwise quite a few of my synapses are going to be clicking away for nothing :)

                          The area is choral.

I think my question might have been better worded replacing the word 'in' by 'entering'. This isn't a clue at all, and doesn't affect how you get the answer. It's just my pedantic thought that you can't actually be 'in' a portal!

I'll toss out the odd cluette over the next few days in case anyone's still trying.

                            Cluette No 1

It will help to find three surnames. (Christian names are not relevant to the puzzle.)

                              Thanks ardcarp.

I still have it in the back of my mind, but am rather busy atm. I had actually got three surnames in mind, but I can't connect them!
