There was a lot of music in the service, and I found myself cheering the choir in that they made it all appealing and uplifting - exactly as they should. It sounded to be a chamber outfit, but that may just be a tribute to their ensemble; there was much drive and commitment, a communicated energy; and the top line, propelled by fine leadership, maintained dead-centre tuning even at gymnastic moments. I was impressed - and grateful.
Just heard it, and I too am very impressed. I like the Mathias canticles. They are not just crash bang wallop and have some soulful bits, especially in the Nunc and the 'Amens'. And the Bingham's a great piece. Why the variation in liturgical words, eg in the 2nd set of responses, and what's wrong with a Holy GHOST?

The top line could have been that of an Oxbridge college mixed choir; and the whole was well blended, very musical and clearly capably directed.

The Church in Wales is not the Church of England.

Just got round to hearing this. D Cook clearly doing great job. Sounded polished and professional, and resources can't be great in St Davids. Bingham was a super piece and I enjoyed the Mathias. Very strong singing. The Matthew Martin piece was strange and rare. Sounded like something totally new. Well done St Ds.

"and his train filled the temple"
I presume this explains the name of Bristol's main station...afterall it does look like a cros between Highclere (Downton) & Bath Abbey.

Apologies for resurrecting this, but having now looked at the score, I can confirm that there is an asterisk at this point which is explained by the following footnote: The 'Shortened form' of the 'Te Deum' ends here. As far as the service was concerned, the portion sung was of sufficient length for the movement of the Queen's Procession through the Nave.

Of course, you will have noticed that the central section of last week's modern take on the text contains a direct quote from Mass XI..

If we're talking of steam, should that not be "Staniered" ? (Stanier locos would have been seen at Temple Meads working via the Midland route from Birmingham)
