I see they're giving the Boyce coronation anthem a trial run, in preparation for their Jubilee concert in St David's Cathedral on 5th June.

I'm squirming with anticipation...to know what The Choir aficionados are going to say about NCO. I dare say there will be some contrasting opinions. But, hey, what's new?

I'm squirming too, ardcarp. I doubt NCO will be dull, but will they provide opera or highly-charged liturgy? And is the difference in the listener's ear?

I shall be especially interested in Francis Pott's contribution to the Choirbook for the Queen - which I regret to say is at this stage, by my accountancy, somewhat in debit.

          Is there a difference?

It's only Evensong, for heaven's sake, not the ruddy coronation.

With that repertoire, it should give NCO a chance to allow solo trebles to sing in that inimitable way EH has inculcated.

Yes, but liturgy and thaetre have a lot in common....sets, costumes, sound effects....though the theatre hasn't cottoned on to smells yet, at least not as far as I know.

I wonder if that's the magnificent Ashfield triple-chant.

First time I ever heard that it caused me to have to pull off the road as I was so utterly entranced. Southwell 1992.

Still have the recording (being made back at home, not in the car I hasten to add!)

NCO can do a Psalm like you've never heard it before......

I'm sorry we cannot go to the advertised Choral Evening Song, they are experiencing major power failures I think I heard that correctly ....... shall we have a whip round for 50p for the meter? Edit: She has just said it's a major thunderstorm they are having, well that's an Act of God, perhaps He's trying to tell someone something?

It's true we have had a storm, but it passed half an hour ago.

Can any regular CE aficionado ever remember a similar run of failures / problems like this, because I can't. Broadcasts from all over the country in the last four or so weeks, and most blighted in some way?
A friend I just contacted in Summertown confirms Finzi4ever's timing - he says that the storm had passed by 2.45-ish.

Are the BBC actually trying to make sure we return to recorded-only CE ??
