    Cathedral conversations

Today's brief discussion between Lord Wallace and David Hill in Westminster Cathedral might be of interest to MBers who missed it (R4 1.45 pm).

The conversation was interesting (relevant timing, as I was driving to Hereford Cathedral to take part in some music-making). But what on earth was all that background music?! Totally irrelevant & misleading.

Yes, it seemed a very odd choice to me too! Lord Wallace said something like how he wished the Members of the House would sing out in full voice at state occasions and then we got more pale, breathy crooning - hardly appropriate in view of the choral tradition in that building. It makes me wonder if the producer had ever heard Westminster Cathedral Choir!

Presumably it was brief snatches of 'The People's Passion' - but it sat very oddly with what the chaps were discussing.
