    If Anyone is interested ...

... And in the Winchester area, there will be the annual performance of Britten's 'Ceremony of Carols in the Cathedral tomorrow (Wed) at 1pm. Admission free but a retiring collection is invited. Sadly I have to be at wort but, it will be wonderful.

Also, if you have recovered from a surfeit of Turkey and The Queen, you can see and hear Christmas music from Winchester Cathedral on BBC 1 on Christmas Day at 6pm, I believe. It was recorded a couple of weeks ago and I gather went extremely well.

Of course you'll all remind me I'm biased but, I don't care as I'm now full of festive goodwill to all people!

    All the very best. Liz

Oops! Mr Lumsden has just reminded me that the Christmas Day broadcast is on BBC 2. As he says, if you watch the other side you'll get Dr Who!

Thanks, Lizzie. I knew about this previously and have secured a long lunch break from work to scuttle across to the Cathedral for the performance.

I very much enjoyed the Choir's new Christmas disc, the centrepiece of which is the Britten. It got a good review in the December IRR (not mine, I hasten to add).

          Lucky You!
I have to be at work but wish I could have taken a day off. I had to miss the Carol Service last night as the weather was bad and I was worried about not being able to get home afterwards. I don't drive and the trains were having problems. After all that though, I didn't fall over until I was walking to work this morning!

I think the new cd is extremely good and I've enjoyed it immensely. Jolly good value for the price too.

I'll be interested to hear on the Forum what you think of the Britten. They really do sing it beautifully.

          All best wishes.

It'll be interesting to see how it compares to the ....(becoming very stale) ..... Carols from King's.
King’s is a dynamic and diverse College in the heart of Cambridge. Founded in 1441 by King Henry VI and recognised for its iconic Chapel, King's has a proud history of independent thought and offers a friendly and forward-thinking community to applicants from all backgrounds.

I notice that the producer has again managed to get a piece on the menu. Hope it sells well around the world.
Am looking forward to the Winchester broadcast and will Sky Plus it.

Could I remind people that (as far as I know) you are able to enter events in the forum calendar (top of page next to FAQ link). This also means that the details will appear in the window at the bottom of the homepage, below the names of those online, when the event is approaching.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance this lunchtime. The Cathedral was packed, but I'd got there early and bagged a seat near the front. Splendid singing from the choristers, with notable solos from one of the boys in 'Balulalow' and
two of the girls in 'In Freezing Winter Night'. Frances Kelly played with great delicacy, especially in the 'Interlude', though I suspect the sound didn't carry well to the back of the Nave giving the amount of coughing and restlessness that transmitted to the seats at the front. The recession was magically done, the faintest wisp of choral sound still ringing as the applause started (from the back, who could presumably no longer hear them).

I feel that Christmas has really started.

Oh, I am SO glad you enjoyed it. I wished that I could have been there. We are so lucky to have such excellent Boys AND Girls and they gel very well together I think. We have several very fine soloists and sometimes their soaring top notes make the back of my neck prickle. The Procession to the East end with the fading sound is always very special, not least at the Advent Carol service the evening before Advent Sunday. Remarkable if you haven't been to it before. For services, I usually sit in the back row just in front of the Crossing on the right side facing and the sounds are superb. Thank you SO much for taking time to post, as I know the Music Team do read this board and every bit of encouragement received with much appreciation. All the very best. Liz

Lizzie, I understand Katharine Jenkins is on the prog from Winchester. And on Dr Who at the same time.

                        Is there no escape?

Goodness, how I agree! Having said that, Phil from Belfast, will be happy as a pig in ...! Maybe the rest of us are missing something? No! We were right the first time! I shall turn the sound off as necessary on the Winchester broadcast! Happy Christmas!

Don't be too rude about Katherine Jenkins. My cousin knows her family and they are all really nice and down to earth and so apparently is she. I think we've just had a surfeit of her of late.
