A Day in the Life of a Truro Cathedral Chorister - Short film

A short film showing the day in the life of a Truro Cathedral Chorister.Produced by http://www.threesfilms.com

This short film has recently been made by the choir school, Polwhele House.
(Alternatively, on their website: http://www.polwhelehouse.co.uk/chori...chorister-life )

I hope it may be of interest.

It's no easy task trying to keep this type of school viable.

(Unfortunately, not a glimpse of the gents - in fact, there are no regular trebles-only services; all are full choir.)

Thank you for the link, Keraulophone - a peek behind the scenes always has some interest.

Your remark (above) rather suggests that the film is intended to promote the school, which must indeed be vulnerable in this harsh economic climate, as are others no doubt. Yet the content of the film seems designed more to promote choristerships - I do hope there is no implication of recruitment difficulties beyond the norm. And, if all services are SATB, when would the boys have occasion to perform Britten's Missa Brevis, which we heard them practising?

Felt more to me as if this was a statement of confidence in both the school and the quality of the choristers. Chris Gray and team seem to be on the up at the moment - certainly the sound they make is fine and shows drive and commitment.

They do occasionally sing on their own, decantor, which is why I used the word 'regular' in my OP. Their fine Missa Brevis is on last year's Britten CD (Regent).

Yes, all going well at present (and in recent years) re choir. An issue for the school is the retention of years 7 & 8 non-choristers, who may wish to transfer to a local secondary school, particularly the HMC one which has yr 7 entry.

This was very interesting from an ethnomusicological perspective ..........
            lots of interesting questions

what role does the stripy 1950's blazer uniform play in the sound of the music ?
is the music dependent on the existence of this kind of social structure to continue ?

I have a friend who is a Japanese Butoh dancer , she was "given" to a shinto shrine as a child to be a shrine maiden ............. I also have friends who were cathedral choristers , the similarity is striking ........ not that there's anything wrong at all with a life immersed in music !

I was dying to ask "what's on your iPod" ??? etc
