Truro Cathedral Duruflé Requiem on Remembrance Sunday now available on Soundcloud

    Sunday evening 13 November 2011

The whole service is divided into 21 tracks and can now be heard on the Soundcloud website here:

    http://soundcloud.com/truro-cathedra...hedral-solemn/

It should be available in the usual place on the TC website by late on Monday, here:

Truro Cathedral Choir (of boys & men, Magnificat!), Nick Beaver (baritone choral scholar), Luke Bond on the Father Willis, cond. Chris Gray.

Note on the sound: only one stereo pair was used, approx. 10 yards west of the choirstalls (unlike the multiple mics used previously), and an apt balance has, I think, been achieved. And yes, for spoon-tinklers, the thurible starts up 3 minutes into the Introit!

    Hope you enjoy it,
    Bws,
    Keraulophone.

Can you not see the value difference between groups of choristers singing their music and someone wafting incense about? Because if you can't then please forgive me if I don't waste any more time discussing it.

I think you'll find that the (Anglo-) Catholic justification for the use of incense is that it represents the prayers of the saints (see Revelation 5,8 and 8,4). I'm not saying that I go along with that, but I think that's the party line. Personally I think John had been taking too much of whatever the first-century equivalent of LSD was, but that's another story.

Simaon. As you mentioned Christ's teaching in an earlier post, I'll drag up a vague recollection of a bible story about Jesus telling somebody off for telling a woman off for slurping valuable ointment on His feet. Being no biblical scholar, I cannot quite recall Our Lord's reply, but I guess it might be relevant to your views about incense and the poor.

I thought someone would bring that one up! But the difference is that it wasn't wasting something that wasn't already there. And the motivation was more practical too - to clean and refresh the feet of Jesus.

What possible benefit incense has to anyone, I can't imagine, pace Miles's suggestion, which I didn't know about but if the case is rather typical of the ridiculous ideas of the Roman Catholics. On the few occasions that I've been in places where it's been around, it has made me cough!

Pseudo Christians tying themselves in knots again !
There's nothing I recall in Christ's teachings about rewarding the rich, invading other countries or keeping your money rather than giving it to the poor. quite the opposite in fact. From the time when I was a chorister I remember that the only difference between the CofE and the Catholic church is that the Catholic church believes that the church (the priest / pope etc ) is necessary for salvation.
I don't believe it myself but it does annoy my when so called "Christians" play pick and mix with things that some people I have huge respect for believe in.
I guess the prof will be off soon anyway as he will be following "Christ's Teachings" and selling his computer to help the less fortunate in our society

I liked the Requiem though !
now when is the wonderful Ligeti Requiem going to be on CE ??

As a way of providing aesthetic ennhancement to your services, it's a lot cheaper than a choir (as I think has already been suggested).

Finzi4ever - sorry you couldn't connect using the Soundcloud link. I've just tried it, and it seems to be working. I'm afraid they're being a little slow in getting it onto the relevant Truro Cathedral web page (v.s.), but the service should be available there soon.

All these pages work for me today. When all downstream sites fail on the same day, I find that either FlashPlayer has gone down or........I've forgotten to switch the soundbox on!

Very fine, virile, disciplined singing. A thoroughly worthwhile webcast. Many thanks.
