Lincoln does have a slightly tenuous link with the Taverner via Cardinal Wolsey, who was made Bishop of Lincoln in 1514 (and Archbishop of York, just for good measure). He of course went on to found Cardinal College (now Christ Church) in Oxford, where Taverner was the first informator choristarum. Christe Jesu also survives with the text O Wilhelme pastor bone, a prayer for Wolsey. One rather unusual feature of the piece is that it has no 4-3 or 7-6 suspensions (or shouldn't do, in my view). The baritone part has to be re-composed by the editor, so if there are any suspensions, they will have been introduced by the re-composed part.

Re post 2, the Cathedral's service list has the correct spelling of Taverner (so it's not Lincoln's mistake!).

Looking at the order of service it may be that we are at last going to hear the Lincoln boys and men on CE although it is the feast of St Hugh so may well count as one of those special occasions when the combined forces sing.I tried to check the Lincoln music list but it wouldn't load up for some reason! Any one got any information on this?

Yes, but Lincoln is one of our major cathedrals with a significant musical history ( Byrd etc ) which up to Aric Prentice's appointment in 2003 ( primarily as Director of Music at the cathedral school by the way) had for years broadcast CE with its traditional choir of boys and men. It still has a choir of boys and men which sings daily services at the cathedral but we haven't heard it on CE for eight years!!. CE is just a broadcast daily service.

The girls should have they turn certainly but why are the broadcasts from Lincoln always considered to be special occasions and sung by mixed forces? To me this is increasingly looking like an excuse for not broadcasting the boys and begs the question: are they good enough and if not why not?
