These Deans and Chapters may be well meaning but it is really a question of whether this sort of surveillance is desirable and what sort of society we want to live in. Do we really want children to think they should not trust any adult?

I should think the atmosphere is difficult enough already for choirmasters to have a really satisfactory relationship with their charges.

There is a further development in the saga of St Anne's in the form of a letter written by a distinguished member of the congregation,(also a High Court Judge) to members of the Cathedral community. The letter makes disturbing reading and does no credit to the clergy and lay people involved in the dreadful decision to axe the post of Musical Director. I appreciate many of you are not on Facebook but the letter can be accessed by typing Save the Choral Tradition of St Anne's Cathedral. For those who have already given support may I thank you, and to all of you we ask for your prayers for all those in the Cathedral, including those with whom we disagree.
