    Organathon at Winchester Cathedral

Our three Amazing Organists and other celebrity visitors will be undertaking a 24-hour Organathon at the Cathedral to raise urgently needed funds for the Music Foundation.

This will be 21 - 22 October and full details can be found on the Cathedral website:

The link can then be followed to the Organathon event and if anyone feels moved to contribute - no matter how much or how little - it can be done securely there or you can download a flyer and sponsor form.

Better still come and join us and cheer the chaps on! You can pay a flat amount of gbp 40 and spend the night IN the Cathedral with breakfast provided in the morning! Not may people will every get the chance to that, let's face it!!!

    All Bws. Liz

What fun! They're not putting their duvets next to mine though - unless they make massive extra donations! ;-D

Some of us have perfectly good home-grown beards of our own, thank you. So - do we wear shades or risk shaves?

This does sound a great enterprise - for a great cause too (the Choral Foundation). And one can pledge for a piece, though I think I'd rather pledge for the Contra Bombarde or the Ophicleide as a wakey-wakey alarm for breakfast (and I don't mean 'Breakfast') . Eithe genoimen!

I tried hard to think of a quippy riposte to Lizzie's Post #3, but no inspiration would come. Honestly.

Oh go on decantor! Try harder! ;-D I'm not sure you'd REALLY want to get woken up by Andy on 'Bertha'... I believe the Girls' Choir are also having a sleep-over so things could be even noisier! We've also got sparkly new 'facilities' in the Cath in the new Fleury Building, so nobody needs to be offput by those sorts of worries. Come along everyone! Liz

What a cracking success the Organathon turned out to be! It was all such fun - albeit I didn't really sleep - and a huge thrill to be able to wander round a relatively dark Cathedral, in thick socks to keep any noise down, taking non-flash photos. The last I heard, the money raised was heading towards gbp9k, with website donations continuing to come in. I was and am SO intensely proud of all our organists. The sight of Simon Bell playing Widor V Toccata blindfolded will long stay with me!

Thanks for the support offered by so many. Bws. Liz
