When I attended live recently all the choristers sang from iPads. Very 21st century.

Lincoln was one of he first places to take 'proper' bell-ringing seriously:

The Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln Company of Ringers is the oldest ringing society with a continuous history of ringing and was formally instigated on 18 October 1612 under a statute granted by the Dean of Lincoln. The Company were also granted their own chapel, still known today as The Ringers' Chapel.[2][3][4]



Could this be a reason why William Byrd's 'The Bells' is based on recognisable snatches of what we now know as 'modern' bell-ringing?

Indeed, just like two weeks ago! Really looking forward to hearing our friends from the other side of the Fens. We're sad to be losing our Bishop to them shortly, but we're delighted that he is going somewhere so lovely, and delighted for them they are getting an excellent new Bishop!

I am surprised Lincoln has not had more congratulation for its live CE broadcast. I thoroughly enjoyed it....and surely it was the thing many on this Forum look for; live, sung with spirit, a worthy and very musical act of praise. Well done Lincoln.

Unfortunately, as a lover of live broadcasts, I was working and unable to listen.

You wouldn't have liked today's Sunday Worship then! It wasn't live, neither was it much to do with worship. It was really a beginner's guide to William Byrd, which I imagine some might have enjoyed. However, being on Radio 4, they kept talking over the music, and we didn't really hear much until the final item (Byrd's best-known anthem probably, Ave Verum) which was more or less intact.

Byrd listening from above will be very pleased with the offering today by his descendants. Warm, embracing sound from the choir taking all the time in the world, relishing every moment. The Introit drew you in to the worship straight away with a solo quartet and them the full choir. The vast space of the Minster was well caught and all was clear. The choir sounded quite large with just a very occasional sour intonation at cadence endings.
A very enjoyable service.
