Vibrant and fervent - sounded glorious. Henry Aldrich was completely new to me!

...me too, and what a polymath he turns out to have been: Dean of Christ Church, classicist, composer, architect of Peck Quad and All Saints/Lincoln College library... Henry Aldrich - Wikipedia

Splendid Wesley-fest (J, C and SS) - loved Judith Bingham's piece - and readings allowed to speak for themselves without commentary. Many thanks, St Pauls.

Agreed. And a treble sound which soared on the high notes when necessary.

I have been transcribing some late 19th-century music lists and his music was in the cathedral repertoire then. I have to admit that (apart from seeing his architecture) the main thing about him that I recognise is the little verse about drinking, quoted on his Wikipedia page.
