    King's Singers rebuffed

....on their USA tour. It leaves me speechless.

An obvious outcome of the relentless media assault on queer persons. This is not at all surprising.

Yup - heard about it on R5L. As surprised as you.

Not really so surprising when one considers the ethos of Pensacola 'Christian' College.

                  The story in today's Times:

A concert by the King’s Singers at a university in Florida was cancelled two hours before they were due on stage because one of them is gay.The a capella gro

The college bans students from listening to "contemporary Christian, country, jazz, rock, rap, R&B, or pop" music on or off campus "whether or not the lyrics are
                    Christian".

I'm not sure what the King's Singers had planned for their appearance, but looking at their forthcoming Toronto program I'm surprised they were contracted to sing at PCC in the first place.

As so often in such cases* I think the university has scored an own goal here. They've just made themselves look ridiculous in public. Even some Christian theologians today think it quite possible that Jesus was bi-sexual, not that it matters anyway.

                      ---------------------------------------

                      * such as the church in Britain who banned a yoga group from renting their church hall on the spurious grounds that yoga was a rival religion.

Of course this is nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with homophobia, and in particular the pernicious way in which it's been normalised by the government of that state.

They've done so before, the statement says, which must have made it more of a blow to be rejected this time.

Indeed: but they must have had to choose their program(me) carefully to have it deemed acceptable, given what the students are banned from listening to, and one might have thought that that in itself would raise alarm bells if it didn't on previous occasions.
The choir I'm in had to drop an item from a concert (yes, a concert, not anything liturgical) in a local church in Advent as it contained an Alleluia! We were told that were a performance of Handel's Messiah to take place in Advent it too would not be allowed to have the Hallelujah Chorus sung. Presumably they don't allow their associated primary school to hold a Christmas Carol concert/service in Advent either: we didn't ask!
We've not been back to that church.
