I had a bit of leisure time this afternoon and listened to the Clare College Epiphany service again.
Those who are fond of the typical Anglican sound may have found the lack of a resonant acoustic a bit disappointing.
However, singers will know that performing in such a space requires using a bit more colour in the voice; i.e. you can't relax a bit and rely on the echo!
Given all of that (which I'm sure most Forumistas understand anyway) I thought the singing was very good indeed and extremely well directed...such sensitive control of tempo and dynamics! In short very musical. The organ also is not a typical Anglican one....nor French, and I thought the closing Widor, with so much detail revealed, was very well played indeed. It suited the Gardner piece too.
