Well yes, but Oxbridge terms and all that.......

But I agree it would be good for the norm to be the Beeb dropping in to a live service.

Good service this . Virtually all recent (ish) music and some interestingly distinctive lesson reading.

Didn't Trinity Cambridge manage live Epiphany broadcasts regularly a few years ago?

I’m not really an organ buff but have to say I really liked the sound of Clare’s instrument.

The infectious commitment of the whole service rather made up for the recorded aspect IMHO.

Great, have seen details of the organ in a related thread.

What a beautiful forum we have.

St John's College always has one, and very fine it is too...though not broadcast. (I attended one a few years ago.) It depends how you define Epiphany. I think the original Catholic 'octave' of Epiphany was from Jan 6 - 12. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) But the John's Epiphany carol services (looks like there are two) are announced as:

The next Epiphany Carol Services will be held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January 2023at 6.00pm

No reason why they shouldn't be celebrated after postulated dates!

The fixture for many years was Advent at St John’s, Christmas at King's and Epiphany at Trinity. The Epiphany services were the most flexible in format, sometimes a CE, then a carol/lesson service or a meditation with short homilies. A constant were the splendid Responsories by Richard Marlow with their stratospheric soprano lines soaring above everything.

The Epiphany service at Trinity College seems to have become a thing of the past. Their first service of the new year will be Evensong on Sunday 22 Jan. Indeed, they haven’t been heard on a Wednesday BBC CE for some considerable time. Although, now that all their choral services are live-streamed on their YouTube channel, perhaps this matters less.

A profound, devotional service from Clare with a superb choice of lessons and music; both were excellently delivered. The small chapel at Clare allows one to feel all is happening in your own room. A recording allows things to move on apace, no pitching notes heard. The music was either a carol, a hymn or an anthem (the differences, discuss? )
