          Recorded 23 November.
(So the R3 schedule page says; DracoM usually mentions this, I think.)

I do 'mention it', but.........well, this time I seem to have omitted this crucial detail. Mea culpa.

Anyway....reminder - today at usual time!

Did anyone else listen? I really enjoyed it - I think the choir made a great sound and very musical throughout. I especially love that Philip Marshall psalm chant used for Psalm 87, which is sung down the road at the Minster to Psalm 101.

Not yet, but intending to catch it via Sounds over the next couple of days. Looking forward to it!

Am l alone, or does anyone else never listen to recorded services? Much as l love the music, it only works for me in the context of a service in the here and now....

Agree, a very confident sound with a challenging sing with a variety of period and styles. A calm, intimate atmosphere. Maybe too many explanations by the service leader; let it all just happen and those attune to worshipping will do that.

I know exactly what you mean, but isn't it hard to put into words why that is? Is it like watching a tight-rope walker live who might fall off, as opposed to watching a film of one who did it successfully? That's a rather cruel way of putting it, and not really what I mean at all. Just about to listen to St Olave's now on catch-up and have no doubt it will be perfection!

That is certainly a good way of putting it. That, plus the fact that for me, worship is in the here and now.....

Absolutely. For me, it's got something to do with the music being at the service of the liturgy rather than being presented in a specially-created/recorded 'act' of worship for radio which is, for me, akin to placing the music in a glass exhibition case in a museum simply to be adored. The music only comes alive when it's 'working' in its proper context. And that's why I'm so appreciating the rich blessing of this live broadcast from Salisbury which I'm listening to as I type. Beautiful, atmospheric, joining a community for its regular Opus Dei worship.
