St Paul's it seems is going to run the girls and boys separately, but combining for special occasions. It's a good system I think. I remember when Wells combined their two top-lines for a stunning Carol Service, several years ago now, when Malcolm Archer was at the helm,

Press release said otherwise, so I’m not too sure what’s what. Anyway, girl choristers at St Paul’s = good! Maybe WAbbey one day (tho I think they will be the last).

"a girls’ line of equivalent number and profile to the boys." suggests to me that they will mostly be separate.

At St Paul’s there will be separate boys’ and girls’ lines, which will perform together at major services. “I accept the idea of a boys’ choir as culturally iconic, and I’d like to keep that. And I’d like girls to be able to experience exactly the same thing,” Carwood said.

It has taken the likelihood of (choir) schools failing an ISI/Ofsted inspection, due to gender inequality of opportunity, to precipitate similar recent announcements. Wabbey wouldn’t be compelled to follow suit, only having boys in their choir school (though they may wish to for other reasons).

By contrast, a court in Berlin has taken a rather different view, upholding the rejection by the all-boy State and Cathedral Choir of a 9yo girl’s application to join. It was said that her voice did not match “the desired sound characteristics of a boys choir”.
The choir's right to artistic freedom is decisive, a Berlin court has ruled after the parents of a 9-year-old girl sued when she was rejected by the prestigious State and Cathedral Choir.

              .

Jesus, Merton, Pembroke and St Catherine colleges all have single-sex treble lines drawn from local schools so could easily go mixed-gender. But of course they don't have the threat of school inspections to force their hand.
