A good broadcast. However, in the interest of transparency, it should be mentioned that the treble line was heavily supplemented by members of the of the Cathedral Youth (sixth form/university age) choir, thus perhaps not giving us a genuine impression of the current standard of the Lincoln top lines.

      Thx for that.

Q: WHY do such a reinforcement?

Because it's being broadcast on the radio?

Yes, that rather reinforces my assertion that BBC broadcast CE isn't quite the same as 'dropping in on a wet Thursday afternoon'. Any choir/DoM will want to put on something a bit special. But you could argue (for those to whom the religious act aspect is paramount) that God is getting something a bit special too!

Personally, I would question whether it ever was. The act of observing (or broadcasting) changes that which is being observed.

When I attended a Lincoln Evensong last December the large, mixed top line sounded very much as it did on the broadcast. There was quite a wide spread of ages so perhaps not so temporary?
