There are certain words that only ever seem to be used in carols - and use the word ‘hark’ seems to increase several thousand percent in December!

Thanks for this Mr K, I’m glad the Nine Lessons went ahead this year in the place where it all started.
There are plenty of Christmas riches online to last the whole 12 days.

Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols (2) from Truro Cathedral (with the boy choristers - different carols from the 23rd, including a favourite of mine, I sing of a maiden, written for us by Julian Philips for the 2012 Festival).

NB the mics are near the crossing, so haven't picked up verse one of Once in Royal, sung at the west end.

Thank you for sharing these links to both these services. There must be an enormous amount of work to maintain such a high standard from both the girl and boy choristers. It must in return be extremely satisfying to have such enormous support from the local community to have a packed cathedral on both occasions.

Sorry to be so late to this party, but as people have been sharing links to livestreamed services over the Christmas period, just in case anybody is interested and has not had enough of Christmas already, here are the various choral offerings from the team at Ely Cathedral during our Christmas stayover. Everything went ahead almost as planned, except that it was decided that the usual annual "Hark the Herald" concert on 22nd December, which sold out back in October but would have caused a gathering of nearly a thousand people, could not happen after all. In its place we did a third "prequel" carol service in addition to the usual two, and all three carol services plus Midnight Mass and Christmas Festal Eucharist became ticketed with limits on numbers and distanced seating back in force. While in the run-up to our Advent Procession we had had numerous pandemic-related absences in the chorister and sixth-form choral scholar ranks and among the directors and organists, we were exceptionally fortunate in that respect this time, although in the event, only three of us regular lay clerks had the required clean bill of health to sing for the stayover, and several of the more frequent extras were also either in isolation or otherwise indisposed, so it was a question of facing each new challenge as it arose!

Anyway, here are the relevant links...

Carol Service "Zero" (Wednesday 22nd December): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPhfaPg7BBs
[Carol Service "One" (Thursday 23rd December) was not livestreamed because it was identical.]
Carol Service "Two" (Christmas Eve): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncrTDS4u0ME
                Midnight Mass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR48VaC5aSg
                Christmas Festal Eucharist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqxSzblrUgw
Christmas Festal Evensong: the YouTube livestream didn't work for some reason, but it WAS livestreamed via Facebook, albeit with a very short interruption at the end of the psalm when the connection was momentarily lost... The first section is here https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/...85781031654471 and the rest is here https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/...34092514964557

                Enjoy!

Caught up on Truro, Ely and Windsor. All lovely, and pleasingly different. Thanks for the links!
