    Other Advent Carol Services 2021

Taking nothing away from the remarkable Advent Service from St John’s, listeners (and viewers) may like to be directed to a few other Advent services, beginning with a mention for the very fine one next door:

Very useful to have these YT links, many thanks indeed to posters 1&2 above

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Keraulaphone - thanks for this: does Truro (or any of these, come to that) do their own streaming, not via youtube?

Services can be viewed on the cathedral’s website, where there is a link to the Order of Service:

Another link takes you to the cathedral’s YouTube channel, where some other webcasts are available. Most of the webcast Sunday services are available for one week only.

We used to use Soundcloud for audio-only services, but YT is more easily accessible for most people. Trinity, for example, still use YT for their audio-only Evensongs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as for their audio-video webcasts on Sundays.

I was quite overwhelmed when I (almost accidentally) came across so many.

Hmmm I thought it reinforced how very good SJC were yesterday…

I’m not sure there has been such a big change. The vibrato in the senior boys’ voices is still there, but at a much less distracting level, eg in Byrd’s Rorate coeli. It now colours the sound without dominating it. In terms of direction, I’d say the current incumbent is similar to his predecessor, and that’s no bad thing.
