This one will be first Daniel Hyde's live CE broadcasting, if I recall correctly.

No doubt a little too soon for anyone to notice anything on this broadcast, but there's been an interesting appointment behind the scenes - David Lowe who has been the choristers' singing teacher at St John's for nearly 30 years has moved down the road to join King's as Head of Singing, teaching both choristers and choral scholars. (He is replaced at St John's by Anita Morrison, singing teacher to the choristers of Westminster Cathedral for nearly 30 years). The role of such teachers can often be overlooked, so I thought these changes merited a mention.

Why cannot R3 announcers be bothered to check pronunciation before they (mis)pronounce and annoy us poor, old pedants and/or embarrass themselves...?

Careful Finzi4ever, there are people on here who consider current Radio 3 Pres as the last word on the matter, and deplore the "old" style.

I could listen to Psalm chanting like this all day. Quite breathtakingly wonderful.

To continue the theme of old pedants: what was meant, I'm sure, is that this is the first BBC broadcast of CE by this choir under Daniel's direction.

I agree. Dare I say that the choir sounds better than even during the Willcocks era?

Dare, dare. I dare with ya!

                    Wonderfully sung.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

It certainly does, far less hooty and more expressive. Built on the ‘old style’ to reach new heights.

Wonderful. Quite wonderful. The balance had a nice wide dynamic range too, I've wondered in some CEs recently whether there hasn't been some (admittedly very) gentle compression on the highest peaks, which has been a pity if I am right.

I rather like doing without a Dismissal. Nice to go straight from Te Deum to Voluntary without dog-collar interruption.

Agreed, especially considering all unacc. and using very traditional chants that can pall if not sung to perfection.

What was the 'ping' on the dominant just before the collects?
