Clear, unfussy, careful, no rhetoric to spoil. Really quietly comforting.
Admired the Britten. And nice to have the canticles sung WITHOUT KCC wrap-round.

    Thx St Davids

Agree. The Britten had a profound beauty which was spell binding. What an arresting start to hold attention at the beginning of the service! There was a beautiful blended tone from the trebles which had delicacy and an expressive strength when needed. The men also had a beautiful tone with a superb solo in the Nunc which built to a great climax. The lack of a large congregation gave a bloom to the sound and a feeling of space. Good to have plenty of Welsh spoken and to crown everything a thrilling voluntary.
Oliver Waterer leaves a choir in good fettle of which he should be very proud. Thank you St Davids.

Did she [Elizabeth Lutyens] write anything else that might reasonably appear in a service broadcast on Radio 3 CE?
If you look under her Wiki entry, you'll see that the choral music listed isn't mainstream CE material. However, I've sung Country of the Stars, quite a long time ago...and it's not that difficult for an experienced choir. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSrJFJmReAU

Returning to today's CE, a most enjoyable service from St David's. Well done to them. I thought the girls' sound was beautifully exemplified in their own verse of the plainsong office hymn, as well as in The Corpus Christi Carol which was lovely.

Hearing this CE was a real pleasure: maybe not the most innovative music list (but under the present unprecedented circumstances: who cares?), but a truly remarkable choral sound and very good trebles.

Kudos to all the people involved in yesterday's broadcast!

                A very fine Evensong.

Shame that the Bishop promptly has to make quite such a fool of herself:

Bishop Joanna Penberthy made the comment after someone flagged their fears for Welsh devolution.

The criticism of her might have had some point if the Conservatives had actually proved themselves trustworthy. However...

                  Yes a very fine Evensong.

The Conservative party is a broad church (ho-ho) and includes moderate but slightly right-of-centre people, many upright working-class folk who are 'conservative' by nature, but also a near-fascist wing. Think of the way the Windrush generation were treated and very recently the asylum-seekers virtually imprisoned in Covid-rife dormitory accommodation. It's the near-fascist wing we need to worry about, and in that respect I think Madam Bishop (or however she is addressed) had a point.

The Bishop is totally correct in my experience. Her only mistake is going on social media to air her opinion.

Perhaps the Church in Wales is less the Conservative Party at prayer than the Church of England itself?

                          Here's an alternative view: https://archbishopcranmer.com/bishop...icitous-liars/

Personally I have no opinion on the matter because I don't have any ties with her Diocese. Perhaps there really are no Conservative voters there. I certainly couldn't imagine my own bishop behaving in that way though.

Whether she was correct or wrong is, IMO besides the point. She has admitted her crude comment was made in connection with a RUMOUR that the Conservatives were plotting to abolish the Welsh Senedd. So, while of course this is (potentially) an important issue, it’s not exactly “life or death”: HAD it been, this might have excused intervention or public comment like this from a senior cleric.

Instead, with this comment, and countless others in a similar vein, the Bishop has caused significant hurt, offence and anger amongst many of her flock: to those on both sides of the political fence. This is one of countless examples of unprofessional conduct which contribute to the chronic lack of faith in the leadership of the Church in Wales. The Bishop would be well advised to concentrate on her job and getting her own house in order, instead of spending all her time tweeting: a reported 44,280 a year, that’s 121 times a day on average!

Apologies to the moderators for this ‘off topic’ opinion. But that’s the point: the Bishop’s conduct is now a major distraction.

Just listened to the repeat broadcast and the announcement afterwards. I hope Marcia enjoyed her organ voluntary.
