Some of my favourite ecclesiastical music that I enjoy in one Evensong! Heaven.
Beautifully presented and the choir relaxed and improved as the service progressed. Thank you.
PS. Organ an electric one; I would not have guessed as it sounded very convincing, though very jerkily played in the hymn.

Not a criticism but an observation; it's your choice how you accompany. Great Bach to end with.

Nice music and nice singing/playing (just a little robotic chanting in the psalms)... but without one single item - except for the hymn - related to Eastertide! Never expected from such an experienced musician like Ralph Allwood...

Ok, we always appreciate some well performed top class music, but shouldn't a Choral Evensong be an act of worship?

I noticed the hymn accompaniment didn't mirror the voice parts, even in the full-choir verses. Who made that particular arrangement?

I find digital and pipe organs all sound two-dimensional on the radio so I can't tell them apart; but pipe organs don't sound two-dimensional when heard in the building.

As anyone who knows me will attest, I enjoy a lively debate. Especially if my hymn playing is the subject. ;-)

Well, I suppose it was entirely appropriate that a French tune should come with added cheese. :o To be serious, though, I'm afraid it didn't work for me. If the choir isn't dancing along (and they weren't), then trying to make the organ do so isn't going to make it sound as if they are. If the singers had adopted a more sprightly tone it might have worked. An interpretation needs to be all of a piece if it's to convince. I think that's why Rutter's arrangements work - everyone's in it together.

Alas, with apologies to the august company here (I might as well offend everyone while I'm at it), I've never known singers take hints.
