Thanks to those in charge that they’ve hit the ground running with live CEs.

Very good news that the music of Martin How is featured, during the week following his 90th birthday.

          Good news.

(But I don’t think much of the lame description of this service in Radio Times: “a selection of hymns and devotional music” )
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Looks as though it's been pasted from a Daily Service info.

Lovely delicate singing with a beautiful soprano sound. Everything was very precisely done but to me lacked excitement and vigour at the big moments, such as the end of canticles and the finish of the anthem after the big organ chord.

But it is quite a small organ (see my post under The Organ) but small can be beautiful.

It was the choir I was asking to give more oomph. The organ sounded superb.

The choir was probably an octet. (Please post if known to be otherwise). The T&B sounded quite soloistic to me, whereas the sops were singing more 'straight'. Perhaps in the interest of balance the lower parts had to throttle back a bit. All conjecture on my part, of course, but 'excitement and vigour at the big moments' probably needs bigger forces.

That aside, I thought St Matthew's Church gave us a good live Easter week CE. Big thanks to them!

Nice and pleasant singing, even if if the organ was pushed much too far into the background.

Can't understand why three items of the service (office hymn, benediction anthem, final marian antiphon) were not in the music list, but it was great to hear Martin How's fabulous chants: a fitting tribute ho him for his 90th birthday.

I adore that first MH chant - and feel a definite tingle when singing it with the cathedral choir.
